EURAXESS is a European Commission initiative that supports researchers’ mobility and career development across Europe. It provides a platform offering information and services related to job opportunities, funding, research collaboration, and professional development. EURAXESS aims to enhance the research environment in Europe by connecting researchers with resources and networks that facilitate their work and mobility within the European Research Area (ERA).

Nature Careers and Science Careers offer a platform where open positions are posted continuously. It is always a good idea to keep updated with these websites! Jobvector, on the other hand, gives a vast platform to look for jobs based on your interest.

How to start your PhD application!

Start Writing!

The most crucial step!

Based on the required documents, you may need to write a cover letter or a SOP. Try to be as original as possible. Your first draft might not be the best one but once you start writing, you can definitely improve while taking advices from the EUBMBDU alumni!

Ask for Recommendations

In almost applications, you will need to provide the review committee with recommendations from your employee and/or supervisors. Often your employee or supervisors are busy people. So please ask them cordially with enough time in hand before the deadline!

Things to underline in your PhD application!

After taking the decision to go abroad for studying, it might be a bit overwhelming to find the initial point. Preparing your PhD application becomes the most critical point in this whole journey. In this regard, we are here to give you some constructive directions!

“Focus less on the technical details and more on the why. You can briefly mention methods, but prioritize explaining your motivation. What was the bigger picture? How could your work contribute to science and society? This element of science communication is often overlooked by Bangladeshi students—but it’s exactly what reviewers will look for.”

Safayat Mahmud Khan, PhD Student, DKFZ and Faculty of Bioscience, Heidelberg University, Germany

“As the full form of SOP dictates “Statement of Purpose”, an applicant must mention why doing a PhD is necessary for them. In addition, how a PhD in the respective filed would benefit the applicant’s career should also be described in a precise manner.”

Piyal Saha, PhD student, Medical University of Vienna

A PhD is a long-term commitment—not just for you, but also for your prospective research group. What matters most is how well your skills, goals, and expectations align with theirs. Just as you need the PhD to grow in your scientific career, they also need you to drive their research forward!
